The Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to remain in Kuje Correctional Facility until January 29, February 25, and February 27, when his case will be adjourned . This decision means Bello will spend the Christmas and New Year holidays behind bars.

Bello is facing a 16-count charge of alleged money laundering involving N110 billion. He pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment on November 27 . The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Bello alongside two others, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu.

In contrast, the trial judge granted bail to Abdulsalami Hudu, the third defendant, in the sum of ₦300 million with stringent conditions. To secure his release, Hudu must provide two sureties who own properties in Maitama, Abuja, valued at not less than ₦300 million. The sureties must deposit original title documents, swear an affidavit of means, and submit international passport copies. Hudu must also surrender his travel documents to the court registrar and remain in custody until all conditions are met.

Bello’s legal woes began when the EFCC invited him for questioning on November 26, followed by his arraignment the next day ¹ ². The case has sparked widespread interest, with many monitoring its progression. As the trial unfolds, Nigerians await the outcome of Bello’s case, which has significant implications for the country’s anti-corruption efforts.
