Olamaboro, Kogi State – As the Social Democratic Party (SDP) prepares to select its chairmanship candidate for the forthcoming council election, stakeholders have been warned against adopting an unpopular candidate.
According to Michael Samuel Idoko, a party insider, the consequences of adopting an unpopular candidate could be dire, leading to a loss in the election and damage to the party’s reputation.
“An unpopular candidate may lack the charisma, leadership skills, and vision to inspire confidence among voters,” Idoko said. “This could result in low voter turnout, division within the party, loss of credibility, and ultimately, defeat in the election.”
To avoid these consequences, Idoko advised SDP stakeholders to conduct thorough research, choose a candidate with broad appeal, consider the candidate’s track record, and engage in inclusive decision-making.
“By adopting a popular and capable chairmanship candidate, the SDP in Olamaboro can increase its chances of winning the forthcoming council election and maintaining its relevance in the political landscape,” he added.
The warning comes as the party prepares for a consensus candidate . Stakeholders are urged to take the warning seriously to avoid a repeat of past mistakes.
