Over the years, the man, Hon. Zakari Alfa has become a household name in the politics of Kogi State with accolades from well wishers in appreciation of his contributions to humanity and how well he has been able to distinguish himself among his contemporaries as a selfless leader with liberal political ideologies that completely align with the wishes and aspirations of the people.
A philanthropist of great standard with an altruistic identity predating his political adventure as his exploits in the private sector depicted a disciplined and sophisticated financial expert who demonstrated enormous capacity in financial management. His passion to mitigate or assuage societal challenges with particular interest in improveing humanity is traceable to his days in the financial institution where he spearheaded and facilitated quite a number of projects across the state which created a leverage for the employment of qualified persons.
Hon Zakari Alfa as a Regional Executive, First Inland Bank where he competently supervised the adminstrative and financial operations of the Bank in the North Central Nigeria facilitated the establishment of virtually all its branches in Kogi State which later metamorphosed into First City Monument Bank.
Upon the establishment across the state, he personally headed the panel of interviewers that saw the recruitment of numerous Kogi sons and daughters into different departments some of whom are today in great positions. His rare display of competencies with strict adherence to professionalism , integrity and objectivity led to his eventual appointment into the political fold of then Governor of Kogi State , Capt Idris Wada who saw in him the leadership traits that aligned with his vision to set the state on the pedestal of development.
As a commissioner of finance, his antecedents are simply overwhelmingly unprecedented as he did not only managed the state finances diligently and devoid of misappropriation or misapplication, he facilitated the construction of laudable social infrastructure across state , a frat yet to be surmounted by successive commissioners.
One of his best legacies that will certainly outlive him is the Ojoku-Okaba road which was hitherto deplorable until Hon Alfa , in his wisdom made a passionate appeal to his principal , His Excellency Capt Wada who saw the necessity to make the road motorable hence his expedited approval for the project that has remained a point of reference in discussing the gains of the adminstration. Should we talk of the numerous rural electrification projects in some remote villages and his personal intervention in the supply of additional transformers to boost electricity?
The establishment and renovations of hospitals and schools and his sense of charity is just another topic to be discussed. This is no doubt a man with many positive sides , an administrator per excellence , a completely detribalised leader and a man who has resolved to be on the side of humanity for rest of his existence. Bringing him on board leadership of the state will certainly be the best decision ever to be taken in our political history.
