A member of the House of Representatives representing the people of Yagba Federal Constituency in Kogi State, Eder Leke Abejide, has been honored with the title, ‘Asiwaju Yoruba Kano,’ by the Yorubas in Kano state led by His Highness, Oba Yoruba Kano, (Sarkin Yarabawa, Kano), Alhaji (Engr.) Murtala Alami Otisese (Adetimiri -1).
This was revealed in a message of goodwill to the Yorubas of Kano State, where the lawmaker who is the Chairman, House Committee on Customs excise, spent over three decades building his businesses and employed hundreds of people before accepting the position of mouthpiece for his Yagba people in the green chamber.
Elder Leke, who is also the Asiwaju of Yabga land and Alu kingdom, his home town, thanks Kano State Governor,His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the citizens for creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive as well as the coexistence of various tribes in the state he refered to as one of the biggest economic hubs of Africa.
Leke who is the National Convener and Founder of the Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organization, one of the largest pro Bola Tinubu’s campaign groups, was accompanied to the event by Chief David Dare Maiyegun DG Asiwaju Confluence Campaign Organization, Hon. Samuel Adebola also known as Gadafi DG Leke Abejide Foundation, legislators, legislative aides, politicians, business tycoon, social cultural groups etc.
Elder Abejide said in his message: “Glory and Honour be to the Almighty, the Immortal, the Invisible, the Most Benevolent.
“It will be an understatement to say that I am humbled, honoured and ecstatic to be conferred with the Chieftaincy Title of the ASIWAJU YORUBA KANO by no less than HIS HIGHNESS, OBA YORUBA KANO (SARKIN YARABAWA, KANO), ALHAJI (ENGR.) MURTALA ALIMI OTISESE (ADETIMIRIN-1) on behalf of the entire Yoruba, Oba-in-Council and the Yoruba Community, Kano.
“I have lived and managed a business in Kano for 30years, indeed Kano is a centre of commerce, one of the largest and most prosperous city in the world.
I will like us to reminisce on the fact that from time immemorial the city of Kano has been the epicenter of hospitality welcoming diverse races, colours and peoples from all walks of life who live harmoniously together. It is for this reason that Kano today is one of the largest and most prosperous commercial centre in Nigeria and Africa at large.
“Basking in the city’s warmth and cosmopolitan euphoria the Yoruba community of Kano (among other Nigerian ethnicities) is enjoying immense and unprecedented level of harmonious relationship which is in turn the catalyst for the great economic contribution of the Yoruba Community that we are today witnessing.
“I am pleased to say that I have spent almost my entire adult life in Kano State where God who led me by the hand enabled me to build formidable businesses with interest in Shipping, Logistics, and Oil & Gas. As Chairman of Abyem Diva Group, headquartered in Kano I have more than 200 staff in my companies’ employment. I am currently on a National Assignment which has taken me away from my day-to-day activities in Kano to Abuja to be a Member of the House of Representatives representing Yagba East, Yagba West and Mopamuro Federal Constituency of Kogi State. And by the grace of God and the love of the Speaker of the House I am today the Chairman, House Committee on Customs & Excise.
“I appreciate the honour bestowed on me by HIS HIGHNESS’s on my conferment as the ASIWAJU YORUBA KANO it is truly humbling and a great honour. It is humbling in the light of the fact that the Yoruba race is one of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, and also that Yoruba race extends beyond Nigeria’s borders to other West African Countries in scattered groups in Northern Togo and Benin. This truly brings to light the value of our convergence, particularly, in Kano. I also take this Honour as triple feather to my cap as by the grace of God and the benevolence of my people I am the ASIWAJU OF YAGBA LAND (comprising the 71 towns and villages of Yagba East LGA, Yagba West LGA and Mopamuro LGA in Kogi State), and the ASIWAJU OF ALU KINGDOM (my native home town).
“On this note I pray that God Almighty will grant my desires for prosperity and harmonious co-existence of the Yoruba among themselves and among other ethnic groups. KI ELEDUMARE KI O RAN GBOGBO AWA OMO YORUBA LOWO, KI O SI JE KI ILU KANO TU WA LARA.
“I commend the Kano State Government, headed by the Executive Governor of Kano State, HIS EXCELLENCY, GOVERNOR ABDULLAHI UMAR GANDUJE, the Emir of Kano and Chairman Central Council of Emirs of Kano State, ALHAJI AMINU ADO BAYERO, for keeping and ensuring harmonious co-existence between and among the various ethnic groups in Kano.
“My appreciation goes to HIS HIGHNESS, OBA YORUBA KANO (SARKIN YARABAWA, KANO), ALHAJI (ENGR.) MURTALA ALIMI OTISESE (ADETIMIRIN-1), the OBA-IN-COUNCIL and the ENTIRE DESCENDANTS OF ODUDUWA IN KANO.”
By this confirment, Elder Leke is now a commanding factor in the Yoruba community in Kano and by extension, the entire Northern Nigeria.
Elder Leke Abejide seeking re election to the National Assembly House of Representatives Yagba Federal Constituency on the Platform of ADC, currently floats one of the biggest campaign organisations for his mentor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the APC for president 2023.
He described Tinubu as leader with great vision that will transform the fortunes of Nigeria into greatness.
