The National Executives of the Igala Youth Council of Nigeria has challenged the illegality of the newly established Task Force in Kogi State.
The body in strong term advised the State Government to desist from the current desperation to foist her unpopular candidate on the people of Kogi State by establishing such body which the State Government lacks the constitutionality to do so
The establishment of a Special Taskforce on Illegal smuggling of firearms to Kogi State by the Executive Governor of Kogi State is unconstitutional and will be challenged in court . In as much as we are desirous of a safe, secure and crime free society, it is worthy of note that rule of law must be followed so far we are practicing constitutional democracy in Nigeria. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) provide in Second Schedule, Legislative Powers Part 1, Exclusive Legislative List especially in Item 2 wherein Arms, Ammunition and explosives are listed. Apart from the National Assembly, no other legislative assembly of state or Local Government (if any) can legally and effectively legislate on any matter listed under the Exclusive Legislative List.
This is also to warn any son(s) of the land who are availing themselves as willing tools to be used in suppressing the choice and decision of the people in the forth coming poll in November, to without delay have a change of mind.
We are also using this opportunity to call on youths in ilegal possession of arms to do away with such immediately.
