Ds Omeiza has hinted a heated debate by stating that calls for the removal of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, are unnecessary and misguided. According to Omeiza, the real issue lies not with the chairman, but with the influential individuals pulling the strings from behind the scenes .

Ds Omeiza points to the precedent set by former EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, who faced similar accusations and was eventually removed from office. However, Omeiza notes that Bawa’s removal did not bring about the desired change, and the FGYB case continues to be a contentious issue.

At the heart of the problem, Ds Omeiza argues, is the lack of strong, independent institutions in Nigeria. “We don’t have strong institutions that are not under the influence of the people in power,” he says . This, he believes, is the root cause of the paranoia and accusations surrounding the EFCC chairman.

Ds Omeiza suggests that attention should focus on those who have the ear of the EFCC chairman, rather than the chairman himself. “He who pays the piper dictates the tune,” he quotes an Ebira adage . In other words, the chairman is merely a puppet, with the real actors pulling the strings from behind the scenes.

To address the issue, Ds Omeiza advocates for stronger, more independent institutions. This, he believes, would prevent the manipulation of law enforcement agencies for political gain.

The EFCC has been working to strengthen its institutions, with Olukoyede calling for the establishment of special courts to handle corruption cases. However, more needs to be done to ensure the independence and effectiveness of these institutions.

Ds Omeiza concludes, the EFCC chairman is not the problem, but rather a symptom of a larger issue. By addressing the root cause, Nigeria can move towards a more just and equitable society.
