A fresh wave of political drama has erupted within the camp of Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, Senator representing Kogi East at the National Assembly, as one of his close aides, Prosper Elijah Salifu has taken a swipe at the Senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Alhaji Abubakar Rajab over a Facebook post Rajab made on the 17th of August, 2025.
In the strongly worded reaction, Prosper Elijah accused Rajab of “losing his place of appreciation” by openly criticizing the same office and benefactor that had sustained his political relevance for years.
According to Prosper Salifu, it was disappointing and unfortunate to see Rajab, who still serves as a Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Echocho and earns a monthly salary of over ₦400,000 suddenly turn around to attack the very institution and individual responsible for his privileges.
He pointed out that Rajab continues to enjoy all entitlements and benefits associated with his office, including medicals, allowances, and program opportunities. Even during moments when Rajab voluntarily excused himself from active duties, Salifu stressed that he was never sidelined or denied his due share of office incentives. Against this background, he described Rajab’s social media outburst as ungrateful and undeserving.
Prosper Salifu reminded the public that Rajab’s political elevation and fortune had been tied directly to Senator Echocho’s magnanimity. He cited how it was Senator Echocho who nominated Rajab for membership of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission, a role that further boosted his public standing. According to him, Rajab’s attempt to join voices lamenting neglect was nothing but hypocrisy and betrayal of trust.
The aide went further to express regret that at Rajab’s age, and after all Senator Echocho had done for him throughout his life, he could still engage in what he described as “double-speak.” He accused Rajab of once praising the Senator for facilitating the Karasana land allocation but later denying the Senator’s involvement in the same matter. Salifu noted that such inconsistency was shameful and portrayed Rajab as a man speaking from both sides of the mouth.
With visible disappointment, Salifu declared that Rajab had chosen the path of ingratitude at a time when he should be consolidating his loyalty. He emphasized that Senator Echocho had always stood by his aides, never abandoning them, and had consistently demonstrated kindness, opportunities, and goodwill to Rajab in particular.
Concluding his lengthy rebuttal, Prosper Salifu prayed for divine forgiveness but maintained that one fact remained unchanged, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho in his words, is “phenomenally iconic.” The post has since generated reactions on social media, stirring debates within political circles in Kogi East over loyalty, entitlement, and the politics of gratitude.
This latest development marks a new twist in the ongoing internal wranglings among supporters and aides of Senator Echocho with many observers watching closely to see how the Senator himself would address the growing rift between his aides.
