
Dekina, Kogi State — The Executive Chairman of Dekina Local Government, Hon. John Urah Ikani, on Saturday, September 6, 2025, held a strategic familiarity meeting with women across the twelve wards and 353 polling units of the local government.
The gathering, which brought together women leaders, community representatives and political stakeholders, was aimed at deepening women’s participation in governance while rallying support for the administration of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Addressing the women, Hon. Urah Ikani underscored the importance of women in politics and governance, describing them as the “true pillars of progress” in Dekina and beyond. He urged them to actively participate in politics at all levels, noting that their voices and efforts are critical to the success of democracy and sustainable development.
“The future of Kogi State cannot be written without the contributions of women. You are mothers, leaders, entrepreneurs, and nation builders. I encourage you to take your rightful place in politics and governance,” Hon. Urah charged.
He stressed that supporting Governor Ododo’s government is not just a political obligation but also a pathway to continued growth, progress, and empowerment for women and youths in the state.
He expressed deep appreciation to Governor Ododo for his people-centered policies and development initiatives, particularly those that directly benefit women. According to him, Dekina women stand solidly behind the Governor and his Renewed Hope-inspired agenda, which has continued to touch lives across Kogi State.
He further extended gratitude to notable leaders and stakeholders from Dekina, including His Excellency Alhaji Y.Y. Okala, Auditor General of Kogi State and political leader of Dekina LG, and Hajiya Rabietu Okwute, Hon. Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, for their unwavering support and encouragement.
The meeting, facilitated by Hon. Urah Ikani’s leadership, was widely seen as a practical demonstration of his commitment to inclusiveness, grassroots mobilization, and community development. By engaging women directly, he reinforced his belief that governance must reflect the aspirations of the people it serves.
Stakeholders at the event praised the initiative, describing it as a turning point in ensuring women’s empowerment, political participation, and unity in Dekina Local Government.
He concluded by emphasizing that the growth and development of Dekina would only be achieved through collective action. He called on all stakeholders, political leaders, youths, and especially women to remain united and committed to supporting the administration of Governor Ododo for the greater good of Kogi State.
“Together, we can build a more inclusive, prosperous, and equitable society. Let us continue to support our Governor and work hand in hand for the progress of Dekina and the entire Kogi State,” he affirmed.
The event ended with resounding pledges of support from women leaders across the twelve wards, who assured Hon. Ikani of their dedication to Governor Ododo’s administration and to the development of Dekina Local Government.
