The serene community of Ogugu in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State was filled with gratitude and celebration as one of its most illustrious sons, Chief Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, made a generous donation of ₦6 million to the Ogugu Development Union (ODU) to strengthen ongoing efforts aimed at combating insecurity and promoting peace across the area.
The announcement came during the Ogugu Development Summit, which brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, and prominent sons and daughters of Ogugu land to deliberate on strategies for sustainable development and security enhancement.
Chief Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, known across Nigeria for his philanthropic gestures and patriotic commitment to his people, stated that the donation was a token of his continued dedication to the welfare and progress of Ogugu. He emphasized that peace and security remain the foundation for all meaningful development and called on all indigenes both at home and abroad to contribute towards protecting and improving their homeland.
According to him, insecurity remains one of the major obstacles to rural progress, hence the need for collective action to strengthen community vigilance and encourage government partnerships that will ensure the safety of lives and properties. He appealed for unity among Ogugu sons and daughters, stressing that “no community can grow in isolation or in division.”
In his remarks, Chief Ogwu James Onoja disclosed that plans were already underway to commence the construction of the Ofante–Ogugu Road immediately after the rainy season. He described the project as critical to rural mobility and local economic growth. He also revealed that discussions were ongoing with relevant authorities to upgrade the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office in Ofante to a full divisional command before the end of the year—a move he said would enhance security presence and improve rapid response operations within the community.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Ogugu Development Union (ODU), Mr. Agada Igeh Samuel, expressed deep appreciation to Chief Dr. Ogwu James Onoja for his unwavering generosity and patriotic leadership. He described the Senior Advocate as a “pillar of hope” and a true example of a leader who uses his resources and influence for the collective good of his people.
Mr. Agada commended Chief Onoja’s numerous interventions in education, road construction, health, and youth empowerment, stating that his latest gesture would go a long way in fortifying the community’s local security network and sustaining peace.
