The grand finale of the 9th Edition of the Igala Nations Cup between Abocho United FC and B2K Academy Ajaka at the Federal Polytechnic Idah Sports Complex ended in chaos after supporters invaded the pitch, forcing officials to abandon the match at halftime.

The disruption began moments after B2K Academy Ajaka’s equalizing goal, which sparked wild jubilation among their fans. The excitement quickly turned into disorder when some supporters invaded the field, introducing masquerade-related rivalry into the celebration — an act the organizers described as disgraceful and contrary to the values of the tournament.

In a statement, the Igala Nations Cup Organizing Committee expressed deep disappointment over what it termed a “shameful show of indiscipline and poor sportsmanship.” The Committee condemned both B2K Academy supporters who initiated the invasion and some Abocho United fans who obstructed efforts to restore calm.

The Organizers reminded all stakeholders that such unruly behavior contravenes Sections 7, 7.1, 7.2, and 7.3 of the tournament’s rules, which prohibit actions capable of inciting violence or tarnishing the image of the competition.

The Director Technical of the Competition, Abubakar Kamar Olachene, also voiced his disapproval of the incident, stating that the Igala Nations Cup was established to foster peace, unity, and youth development — not conflict.

The Igala Nations Cup is a brand built over nine years to unite and empower our youth through football, not a ground for traditional or community conflicts,” he said. “We must not allow the selfish actions of a few to destroy what has become a unifying force for our people.”

Following the incident, the Organizing Committee has summoned officials and captains of both teams to an emergency meeting on Sunday, November 2, 2025, to determine the next steps. The remaining half of the match will be played behind closed doors, and disciplinary measures will be taken against those found responsible.

The Committee reiterated that football should remain a tool for peace and togetherness rather than division, urging fans and teams alike to uphold the integrity of the competition.
