Day Three of the two-year anniversary celebration of Distinguished Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan’s stewardship in the 10th National Assembly unfolded with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Smart Market at Okuhanatahu in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The newly commissioned facility, designed to stimulate local commerce and empower small-scale traders, comprises eighty shops — forty open stalls for daily traders and forty lockup shops for wholesalers. The market also houses a modern abattoir with adjoining shops, ensuring hygienic meat processing and sales.
In her commitment to sustainable infrastructure, Senator Natasha ensured the inclusion of constant electricity and a motorized borehole to guarantee water supply within the premises, a rarity in rural market projects across the region.
Speaking at the event, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan described the project as an embodiment of her passion for grassroots economic revival and inclusive representation. She noted that when people have access to clean water, reliable power, and organized trading spaces, they experience not just commerce but dignity in labour.
Community leaders, traders, and residents of Okuhanatahu expressed immense gratitude for the project, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that would reduce unemployment and expand trade opportunities across Okene and beyond.
People of Okuhanatahu commended the senator’s visionary leadership and consistency in delivering tangible projects across all five local government areas of Kogi Central, remarking that the Smart Market “will attract new businesses, create wealth, and redefine rural trade in Ebiraland.”
Senator Natasha’s series of project inaugurations, ranging from industrial boreholes and solar-powered streetlights to empowerment schemes have continued to redefine what effective representation means to the people of Kogi Central.
