Teachers are not magicians – By Haruspice

When things happened, we go emotionally berserk – like it never happened before. In just one year, we have counted sore tales of children fatalities in boarding schools. One in Akwa Ibom, one in Lugbe Abuja, one in FGC Kwali and now in Dowen College in Lagos.

These ugly tales made the news because of the elite angle the innocent students inherited, otherwise, cases of extreme violence happen every day in our primary and secondary schools across the country.

And why we are surprised is my own surprise. What do you expect when every space in our national life violence is used to address issues? Tune to your radio stations and hear vitriolic tones against tribes and government, go to church and hear very constricted preaching against tribes and government, go to community gatherings and see the convoluted barrage of venom, it’s worst on social media where violence has replaced love.

Everywhere you go, just like the air violent discussion dominates the air. And we blame the young ones with innocent hearts not to be corrupted with our extreme views? What we are seeing amongst our children in schools is the result of what we planted in their minds.

Everyone is angry and in expressing their anger, they go verbally violent. The anger we manifest is being amplified by our children in very deadly ways. If not, what business has children in school with violent behaviour? In the hands of our children are polyphonic phones powered with internet service, these kids navigate anywhere with these machines of influence.

We expose our children to danger using our hands and think we are being civilised giving them access to the internet. In case you don’t know, your children are dangerously exposed to very violent content with the phones in their hands – this is in addition to
your everyday violent expressions that dominate your life.

What we are witnessing in our children today is not strange but the effect of our doings as parents. The untamed anger in our hearts is being sustained by our children and the innocent angels are making reality our venom. You get what you give, so don’t be surprised.

You radicalised your children with
extreme views and expect them to be gentle doves? That isn’t gonna happen. Please, stop blaming schools when things go bad, teachers are not magicians, they can only teach your children academic skills, it is your parental
responsibility to produce God-fearing, disciplined and courteous kids. Schools are not rehabilitation grounds, don’t push your responsibilities to others.

Moral values no longer exist in our homes, they have taken flight into space. “Frankly musing”
